Day 3 – Union Square & AIGA

Friday found us in the Union Square district, where we took in an excellent type exhibit and NYC's biggest bookstore.

After a late night, we took our time getting ready in the morning, grabbed a coffee, and then headed down to Union Square (at 14th Street & Park Avenue). One of the items on my to-do list was to check out the "Century: 100 Years of Type Design" exhibit at the AIGA. The show featured the works of some of this century's most influential typographers and type designers. More details on the placard photo below.

After checking out the exhibit, we strolled around the neighbourhood and found Strand, NYC's largest independent seller of new and used books (since 1927!). Their slogan: "18 Miles of Books" – it was true! We spent a good chunk of time and money there, and then continued our way north, past the historic Flatiron Building, circa 1902.

We took the rest of the afternoon off, and then ventured out in the evening for our first experience of NYC pizza. We landed at Kesté Pizzeria in the heart of Greenwich village. It was amazing – so amazing, I forgot to take a photo. A little thunderstorm didn't stop us from grabbing some ice cream for dessert, and then we headed home. A great Friday.
